The second coin known from Seleukeia on the Issos
Lot 381
CILICIA. Seleukeia on the Issos. 2nd to 1st century BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 19 mm, 6.91 g, 3 h). Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΣEΛEΥKEΩN / TΩN ΠΡOΣ TO - IΣΣIKON KOΛ/ΠΩI Thyrsos. E. Levante: Greek Imperial Coinage of Cilicia, in: Nomismata 1, Milano 1997, p. 44 corr. (date and reverse legend). Of the highest rarity, apparently only the second coin known from this mint. Earthen deposits and minor cleaning marks, otherwise, very fine.

The polis of Seleukeia on the Issos is only known from this and another coin. Levante suggested four different localizations, but a conclusion will probably only by reached by finding epigraphic evidence of the city
